We need this in El Paso. Think of what this could do to our kids' TAKS Scores. GRANT FUNDING AVAILABLE! The Boston Public Library offers homework assistance program at the library branches for Grades 3-8 and 4-12. The program also includes a mentoring program and prizes. www.bpl.org/electronic/homework.htmThe program is Mayor Tom Menino's brainchild, and was funded with a Putnam Grant. The grant document is public record, and is on file at the Main Library on Boylston Street in Back Bay. (Strelz's old neighborhood!) I ordered a copy of the document for our electeds Boston's "library classroom" encourages the kids to use and feel comfortable with their local libraries, and is less embarassing to a student that might feel shy about having to stay after school for additional tutoring. It gives teachers a break, and builds self-esteem with the kids while they learn and enjoy the library at the same time. AND, an additional feature of the program is online assistance to any kid with a home computer. Kids can login when they're absent from school. It's really great.
