I realize that the mayor is running for re-election, but I think it's very questionable judgment to use links from the city website that link to his "public service". Is this ethical? Furthermore, whose idea was this? Isn't this something that should be a separate part of his campaign?
the mayor supports the Paso Del Norte Group and its effort to gentrify the Segundo Barrio, but he says he's also catered to Sin Fronteras. What is he promoting, his wife's former catering business, or his "public service" in displacing the poor from the southside when he catered to farmworkers who oppose his political stance on their neighborhood?
My real concern is the safety of the children that are pictured in some of his slides. I hope the mayor understood that sometimes, children in shelters are there because they weren't safe at the homes they left. And if he understands this, then it follows that he understands the liability he encouraged for each agency providing services to children that he catered to--I sure hope the parents or guardians of those kids signed releases.

Please post the link. Maybe I will send him a letter to point out the possibility he has put children in danger by showing where they now reside.

my personal opinion is that this lacks class; my hope: that the children pictured are not residents, even if "media" releases have been signed. I'm familiar with situations where non-custodial parents and/or alleged perpetrators have followed "tips" such as these for reasons that I would imagine, are pretty obvious.
for that reason, snil, I don't want to be mean, but I won't post the links or the pics themselves here, but I will be contacting authorities to express the potential concern here, and I'll send it to you privately
this is even more frustrating than looking at the city website and seeing inaccurate or misleading information elsewhere
who keeps track of this stuff? No wonder the county commissioners bumble along with anything related to ethics-an enforceable code and an informed electorate would put these kinds of things to a halt
the person who contacted me regarding the potential for risk here made a very good point: these slides show the personal "earthly" reward for community service

the person who contacted me regarding the potential for risk here made a very good point: these slides show the personal "earthly" reward for community service Jesus' instructions for giving was that one should "not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing." In other words, keep your charitable works quiet and low-key. If you have to brag about what your are doing for others, you have to bring credit to yourself in some way for your charity, you are not really being charitable but instead are being self-serving. The man who says, "Look at what a good, caring man I am" is not quite the good, caring man he claims to be. He is just serving his own self-image or his own public image. There is a definite political pay-off for Cook in appearing to be a Mayor who cares about "the people." It is ethically and morally unseemly to brag about one's charity, as it brings into question the motive for the charity.
