He was on the bench for what, three months...it's alleged that he made a deal w/an under cover FBI agent. If this turns out to be true, this man should be put away. I feel very badly for his family, for those who supported him. This is from The El Paso Times
El Paso FBI agents arrest state District Court Judge
By Ramon Bracamontes / El Paso Times Posted: 04/02/2009 10:23:00 AM MDT ยป EL PASO - FBI agents arrested state District Court Judge Manuel Barraza on Thursday morning, alleging he traded judicial decisions for sexual favors with several women, including an undercover FBI agent, court documents state. Barraza, 53, took office Jan. 1. He is charged with three counts of wire fraud and deprivation of honest services, and a single count of making a false statement. He will appear before a U.S. magistrate on Thursday afternoon. According to a federal grand jury indictment issued Wednesday afternoon, "Manuel Joseph Barraza, a.k.a. Manuel Saavedra, solicited, agreed to accept and accepted bribes in the form of cash money and solicited sex and agreed to accept a bribe of engaging in sexual activity with women, including an individual who was, unbeknownst to the defendant, a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Special Agent acting in an undercover capacity (UC) in exchange for his influence and exercise of discretion in his official capacity as an elected judge." Barraza was elected to the newly created Criminal District Court 1 during the November general elections. He was arrested Thursday morning by the FBI.
