What happened at the ethics commission today is nothing short of shameful. This is why El Paso will never be able to clean up government in this county. We the people lost today at the Ethics commission and shows plainly the failure of El Paso government to police it's self.I sure more on what happen today,do not wish to steal others thunder, will come out. We should all be saddened that once again El Paso government would not and could not clean up their mess and take those to task that have used government in support of their own political and self interest.

Here is my comment I posted to NPT and Mr Crowder. Post1 Cobos told the ethics board that Perez is an exempt, salaried employee who does not have to account for his time and activities in the same way an hourly workers would."
If JOP does not have to account for his time and activities as other county employees then this leaves the door wide open for abuse. If no one knew or knows when this person was or is on the people's time and dime then how can they say they know for sure he was or was not working on his own interests on the people's time?
On Cobos's word! A letter from Cobos! Give me a break here people El Paso citizens are not that stupid or at least I don't think so.
"As for whether Perez was using county equipment, board member Jim Clair said the board last month received Perez’s assurances the he used his own computer to send the endorsement letter and took him at his word.'
No citizen can go before any government body and the facts of a case, complaint or otherwise be taken on just their word.Where the hell is the proof. The Ethics board did not check the IT records to see who had been playing on county computers.
The Abeytia complaint was given a white wash job by this so call Ethics commision.
The handling of Acosta complaint was even worse. The Ethics Commission knew by not rendering a judgment that by June the complaint would be no more than a gnat's fart in a hurricane.
Another white wash job which is historical and a standard for El Paso government when it comes to holding those in government accountable for their actions.
Now do you people see why your government is out of contol and running wild in El Paso? No one will hold these dead beats accountable!
Post 2 Mr.Crowder Other questions that should be asked and answered are these. 1.Does the county have it's own policies to who in the county recieves, gathers and renders open public records. I do believe this is the County Clerk's domain and if the need arises then he goes to the County Attorny for advice.. Yes,Cobos as COE of the county under Texas open record Act can render open records. 2..Did Cobos usurp the county policy on who was assigned by the county to handle open public records? 3.Did Cobos usurp the the assigned duties of the County Clerks Office? If Cobos and friend do not wish to let the County Clerk's office do their job and they wish to do that job also why have a County Clerk's office to start with? 4. Where are the documents to show that someone investigated in the county or the Ethics Commission the IT records or even demand that a paper trail been shown to the activities of Cobos and JOP in these matters. That right we have to take Cobos's and JOP's word for it. Isn' that special!. Sounds like a whole lot of preferential treatment going on here at all levels which would not be accorded by these governmental to the average citizen. 5.If so, why has no one in government in El Paso stopped this activity?

If you don't mind Thomas, I would like to add my two cents here: remember what gadfly said?
"If so, why has no one in government in El Paso stopped this activity?"
maybe it's because they don't see it in their best interests to stop it

I have submitted an open records request to the county to the polices and assigned duties in the county in the handling open public records.I have been told by my County Commissioner that these duties are the County Attorney job. Will let you guy know the answer to these questions when the open records are rendered. Eight business days and counting. Let see if the average Joe citizen, who is not a person of special interest to anyone in the county, will have to fight them for this information. Thomas the Flash
