I see another sainted member of the elected class has plead guilty. Although "she did nothing wrong". Friends hiring friends....family hiring family. Same ol same ol. It's just sickening. The working class has no shot here. Even our local talk radio and newspaper are in the tank. I have yet to hear any of these experts ask a candidate this question....so-and-so you have been in elected office for 10 years....can you tell us the effect that money has on policy....i.e. legislation.....contracts...hiring etc? Nobody will dare to ask. We have to sit back and vote for a string of candidates all of whom (if they are viable) are fatally compromised from the deep pockets that run our town..state and nation. Maybe someone asked that question on talk radio...I dont know...I stopped listening about a year ago. They all are in the tank for their own pound of graft and don't give a darn about us. Even the judges are a joke....taking campaign contributions from lawyers who practice in their court? Are you kidding me?

I struggle with this question on funding a campaign. On the one hand everyone tells me that if I want to run for office I have to raise big bucks. On the other hand the same people complain that taking big bucks compromises you.
I keep falling back on my NCO training in the Air Force and in civilian positions with fiduciary responsibilities that stressed that avoiding a conflict of interest is not enough, you must also avoid even the appearance of a conflict of interest.
In the end I am certain that should I run for office, I will limit contributions to those that come only from individuals - no party or PAC or Corporate donations, and limit contributions to some maximum amount perhaps between $250 and $500. It may cost me getting elected, but would eliminate any appearance of being bought and paid for before I even serve.
What are your thoughts?

I like everything you wrote and couldn't possibly agree more. That means you can't win, but you will have my respect. Not much of a consolation prize is it?
