Table 5: Top 5 U.S. Domestic Average Itinerary Fare Increases and Decreases, 1995-2009
Top 100 Airports* Based on 2008 U.S. Originating Domestic Passengers
Fares based on domestic itinerary fares, round-trip or one-way for which no return is purchased. Fares are based on the total ticket value which consists of the price charged by the airlines plus any additional taxes and fees levied by an outside entity at the time of purchase. Fares include only the price paid at the time of the ticket purchase and do not include other fees, such as baggage fees, paid at the airport or onboard the aircraft. Averages do not include frequent-flyer or "zero fares" or a few abnormally high reported fares.

BB here....
Dallas Love can be explained by the partial repeal of the wright amendment...aka the DFW protection act. Cities that previously did not have N/S service from DAL include STL MCI JAN and BHM....so that added to the distance of the average flight.
All the rest have no real excuse. We are being squeezed here because of the high landing fees. SWA is really tough on landing fees and ELP has suffered from that. Not to mention we got left out of the republic-frontier merger when we lost our dash 8 service to DEN. SWA will not fly N/S to DEN from here and that leaves us with united express and those tickets aint cheap. We have almost no competition for flights into hubs...DFW only AA. ORD just in the last year has comp with one mainline AA flight 2 in the summer per day from ELP to ORD...and united express has provided 2 n/s to ORD as well. ATL is just DL with no service from airtran. No N/S into the following hubs...MIA JFK IAD SFO MSP DTW MEM CVG CLE EWR. We have N/S to IAH only on COA. N/S into PHX on US air and swa...makes the tix more competitive and same for LAX with SWA and United express.
Cargo traffic has improved dramatically and that is good for the health of the airport. But the lack of (and expense) commercial service hurts us in terms of being business friendly.
