I was invited to post this question on this board.
How secure do the borders have to be in order for people to favor Immigration Reform? I am deeply frustrated because I just don't see how the border can be completely secured and for some people I know it immigration reform is the only way to become a legalized resident/citizen of this country. Additionally, is there an understanding that some people cross legally and choose to overstay their visas? They don't all cross through the desert. It just seems so hopeless for us to see reform soon if all their going to concentrate on is securing the border. Meanwhile people live like prisoners in this wonderful land.

I think the answer depends on what one wants a "secure" border to solve. For me many answers. I wish it was secure enough to really deter people from risking their lives crossing the desert either on their own, or in the "care" of smugglers who could care less who survives and who dies. I wish it was secure enough that the only ones attempting to cross were undeniably criminals up to no good, so no more Border Patrol agents are killed because they approach every encounter knowing what they face. I wish simple respect for a border was security enough. The more I learn and the more I grow I am not so sure border security and immigration reform need to be tied. I think we can reform immigration without "securing" the border first.

Indeed, When you have the Gang of Ocho wriiting a piece of legislation into the immigration bill that would fine employeers $5000 if they hire a U.S. citizen or a legal resident and waive that fine if they hire an illegal you have a serious problem. We need to crack down on employers who hire illegals not give them a pay on the back and a fine waiver.

No racism intended here, but an "ethnic observation" --
You are totally underestimating a desperate Mexican's enginuity where fences are concerned! (or a drug dealer's, or a terrorist's)
That fence is an expensive joke!

The Israeli Prime Minister has stated that their border fence has reduced illegal entry into Israel by 90 some percent. Isn't that the cat's meow?

Now, if they could find a way to stop the rockets!
"Col. Grisha Yakubovich, head of the Civil Coordination Department in the Israel Defense Forces, credited the barrier, though he said it was only ONE reason that attacks have diminished and that no Israelis were killed in the West Bank last year. Israel today works closely with Palestinian security forces, he said, and targets and arrests members of alleged terrorist cells early in their development. He also credited the Palestinian Authority leadership in the West Bank, which rejects violence as a political tool."
Where is the Mexican government leadership? And, to date, how many of those illegals are sucide bombers anyway?
Tweet from Senator John McCain: “Just witnessed a woman successfully climb an 18-ft bollard fence a few yards from us in Nogales.”

1. The fence does work contrary to the leftist BS.
2. McCain is a lying sack of dog poop. If he said the sky was blue, I would have to go outside and check for myself.
3. according to BP stats. 2-3 out of five border crossings are of aabic origin

#1 -- I disagree.
#2 -- McCain's visit to the border fence in Nogales with 3 other Senators was filmed by various news crews. Google it -- there are quite a few videos.
#3 -- show me your BP sources. Being of Arabic origin is not a crime. Don't know whether they crossed legally or not, but there are some very prominent El Paso families of "Arabic" origin who entered through Mexico. (BTW, the first illegal immigrants were the Spanish, followed by the Brits. Ha!)
AND -- I'm asking this because I really don't know, and you might. Aren't Jews of Arabic origin? Weren't they a tribe from the Arabian Penninsula? Isn't Judaism a religion, not an ethnic group or "race" -- like Muslim is a religion? Aren't they all from the same origin? If not, where did the Jews originate?

The Arabs and original Jews (Hebrews) are semitic peoples who descend from Abraham through his sons Ishmael & Isaac. Not all Jewish people today are of Hebrew descent so not all Jews and Arabs are related though a great many of the are.
I think a better question would be are Hebrews and Arabs related. And your answer is yes. Abraham (who was promised that all of the prophets will be his sons by god), had two kids, Isaac and Ismael, The Hebrews descended from Isaac and the Arabs descended from Ismael. There were a lot of prophets of Isaac's side and there were only four on Ismael's side. God kept his promise to Abraham, and all of the prophets god sent including Mohammad was from Abraham's side. But to answer the question yes, Jews and Arabs are distant cousins, but this only works for the Jews in Israel for that matter (some non-Jews converted to Judaism doesn't make them distant cousins). The Hebrew Jews would have the same DNA tests as the Arabs mainly because they both had the same father-Abraham.
Also, some Jews migrated to other parts of the world as people conquered Israel over and over again and kicked out the natives. These migrating Jews mixed in with other places(Ex. Germany, Russia, France, Great Britain). They learned to speak the language and started to look like the people around them(from mixing a lot) and you can still see a lot of non-Arab looking Jews today, mainly in the USA and Europe.

Thanks ivy! I should have said Hebrews instead of Jews because Judaism, like Muslim, is a religion, not an ethnic group. So what we have here is the original version of the Hatfields and McCoys.

If I may interject here.
Ishmael which means God listened, isn't the only factor in the origin of the Arab people. After Sarah died Abraham took on another wife. Seems after God restored Abraham's ability to perform (sic) he put it to good use.
Genesis 25: Now Abraham took another wife, whose name was Keturah. 2 (A)She bore to him Zimran and Jokshan and Medan and Midian and Ishbak and Shuah. 3 Jokshan became the father of Sheba and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim and Letushim and Leummim. 4 The sons of Midian were Ephah and Epher and Hanoch and Abida and Eldaah. All these were the sons of Keturah.
recognize some of thoe names? Midianites Sheba Dedan Asshurim
We need to give credit where credit is due. Ishmael is not the only contributing factor. Abraham should have kept his toga closed.
and don't forget Lott's two daughter's who slept with their father we got the Moabites and another group from those two.

Can anyone with half a brain watching what's going on here on the border believe the troll that is Harry Reid saying Monday July 14, 2014 that, "...the border is secure." What planet is this buffoon on!!?? Harry has officially lost his mental capacity to help run this country.
