Why El Paso is a corrupt cesspool
By W.R. BROWNFIELD
I tried, I tried. I used humor, anger, outrage, and profanity. All for your own good. I tried to tell you that El Paso was for sale, of course I used the fictional BROWNFIELD EMPIRE LLC to illustrate my point on how money affects policy. Instead of the BROWNFIELD EMPIRE LLC buying your elected officials and getting polices we like approved with legislative ease, it's the PDNG crowd lead by Republicans Mr. Paul Foster and Mr. Woody Hunt. I mention Republican not as a slur as the local dimwit democratic party would like it to be, but more as a hypocrite. I mean here are these republicans who advocate limited government, lower taxes and deregulation in order to make the markets more efficient. Well, well, well. Ya think that the city building a 50 million dollar ballpark falls under limited government, and lower taxes for a more competitive business environment? Add to the costs of rent for the folks currently in the city hall building that will be demolished in order to make room for the ballpark. Add more to the total cost of this boondoggle when El Paso builds a new city hall. Let's remember the legacy of the man who got El Paso County a new courthouse...Luther Jones.
Do you want to know how big of a joke this process was? Remember the outrage that Mr. Woody Hunt had about all the local corruption? He founded a group www.citizenscommission.org/ clink the link for a laugh. Apparently best practices in government involve a secret plan with no public input to spend 50 million of your tax dollars...wreck city hall....rent office space for displaced city hall employees from PDNG members (who must sign a confidentiality agreement) . Mr. Foster who just happens to be putting in Air conditioning and getting the elevators working in the Blue Flame building...you remember the blue flame dont ya? That is where EPISD nearly went bankrupt and allegedly Dr. Anzaldua knocked up his secretary. I wonder if we can get some DNA evidence on that? I would ask Jaime Esparza our district attorney, but I am afraid with his personal life he would not be willing to help.
Moving on to the new star on city council Courtney Niland. Let me tell you folks something. You think she was on the utility issue to help the little man? Newsflash. Look at who got her elected. Remember that those very people tried to get a private utility right here in El Paso to compete with El Paso Electric. Lucky for us, their timing sucked as it was right when ENRON exploded in fraud. So it died on the vine. They will be back for another bite at the apple. Trust me, as someone who has had both types of utilities...you want public where they have to go before the government to get a rate increase.
Emma Acosta....the progressive? Yeah she sold you out to the progressives...which in El Paso means corporate welfare rubber stamp. It appears she wants Isela Castanon Williams EPISD board chief to run for her seat when she leaves. Those 2 are thick as thieves just like Red and Andy (shawshank reference). I can picture the two of them driving down the highway along the mexican coastline with a trunk full of taxpayer loot. Cant you? Of course I think Emma already has a good chunk of our money...but that was from some undisclosed lawsuit. Always nice to have the plaintiff against the taxpayer representing the taxpayer...welcome to El Paso!
Most of the rest are still the same. Lilly the champion of the developers. Thank God that the lawyers for the development community put a cattle prod in her purse to wake her up when its time to vote AYE. Otherwise we would need to get the physician from the Texas death house to come in weekly and verify if she is dead or alive. Byrd still uses Steve Ortega as her Linus security blanket to answer any question more challenging than her favorite restaurants in her district. Dr. Noe is another in the progressive bloc that thinks corporate welfare is liberal. It aint. Eddie Holguin is completely ineffective. Sure I may like his no stance on the ballpark and PDNG in general, but he has failed to convince anyone on council or rally the city behind his reasoning for no. Carl Robinson is a nice man, not too bright. John Cook...see Carl Robinson.
On to EPISD. I told you so. I was against the TRE and I said why. Because EPISD is a corrupt enterprise. What is frightening is people like Dayoub getting involved as a leader of the business community. The last thing EPISD needs is input from local El Paso businessmen. See the El Paso corruption scandal for details when business and government mingle in El Paso. The newspaper is right about the board, but what good would it do? Who wants to be on the board other than wanna be crooks? Besides the newspaper has no moral authority here. They were given numerous stories about EPISD corruption and did nothing with it. I am supposed to trust them now? Umm no, not under Bob Moore who was running the city desk at the time if I recall correctly. Speaking of the board and paying off Dr. Infidelity...why was the moral turpitude clause in Dr. FeelGoods contract not evoked? Speaking of scummy Doctors...Dr. Murphy at Canutillo, well good for you that you were able to pass that Woody Hunt Elementary school by the voters...and the TRE. I dont think you will do as well next time around. I doubt the citizens will be like your pathetic bootlicking board and back you....they know what you did at EPISD. Speaking of scummy....Sib Abraham is rumored to be Dr. Murphy's lawyer....I bet it wont be as easy to get Dr. Murphy in the clear as it will be to get Sib's kid off on killing a poor guy and leaving the scene. El Paso justice....the joke with endless punchlines.
El Paso is the only city in the world that considers retail development and a ballpark as economic development cornerstones. GET YOUR ICE COLD BEER HERE......PEANUTS POPCORN! LOL, what a joke.
Remember not to vote....it only encourages them.
This is the home of the only independent local blogger. I will not take money for ads nor would i become a scumbag lobbyist.
Until the next FBI raid...this is brownie...signing off.
