I started hearing late yesterday of a possible impact on the planet Jupiter by an Australian amateur astronomer. The impact has now been confirmed by NASA's Infrared Telescope Facility at the summit of Mauna Kea, Hawaii. www.nasa.gov/topics/solarsystem/features/jup-20090720.htmlThe area of the impact will be on Jupiter meridian, near the southern polar area at 1:38Am MDT July 21. How visible the impacts dark cloud area will be on the disk of Jupiter is very hard to say for amateur telescopes. Thomas the Flash
