In order to get more students graduated the Texas House is considering dropping Algebra II as a graduation requirement. Yep if you can't get the kids to pass it in larger numbers drop it. The dumbing down of our children escalates. El Paso high school grads are already poorly equiped for college in large numbers...now this!!??

Why are this country's math, science and reading skills so poor? We have dropped even further in the international rankings. WE are pouring more money than any nation in the world into our educational system yet a large percentage of our high school grads still can't read above 8th grade levels, perform basic math skills and god forbid they know about the period table.

If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be. Thomas Jefferson . . The secret of freedom lies in educating people, whereas the secret of tyranny is in keeping them ignorant. Maximilien Robespierre

It's official. After months of debate of how this move would degrade education and college and vocational prep training in Texas this week the Texas State Education Board will formally withdraw Algebra II as a prerequesit for graduation. The State legislature had approved the move last May. The problem is Texas was the first to require Algebra II for graduation and 20 other states followed suit sighting college and vocational prep and the prime reasom to require the advanced math and likewise advanced sciene classes. Well jump 40 or so years later and Texas is scrambling to get more students graduated. The state educators answer to the delima? Drum roll please..................... dumb the system down. What a farse our state and national educational system has become.
