The old man certainly put the momma's boy to bed without supper! The jury has not been seated yet, the lawyers can make this interesting.

Lawyers haggling over shows that have ZERO revenue and anemic ratings? Not likely. Sure they can huff and puff....however in the end the old man took "junior" to school with an old fashioned power play. It's the 70 year old crafty vet inside the blue line...he goes with the traditional slap shot....and he scoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooores. Both Norma C and Strelz stated today that they have their lawyers looking at what David K has written. It's personal now and Strelz has a history of using a legal club. He has been hit with one himself a few times

Brown, love that part about the daily generated ad revenue. I'm just surprised it's that much. ;D

I only heard a couple of whimpers, second hand. What were the allegations? The whimpers I heard are pretty easy to answer: maybe Chavez is counting on the Aztecas to clean it up for her. You have to pay a lawyer unless you're "in" under the covers with one already. I hear those gang ties are lifelong, so she's good for the hit their image is taking. Free PR discalimer for the monitors: thank you for allowing my post to stay up. This was humor, targeting a political official who behaves inappropriately in public, has a history of threatening (did you hear that show yesterday?) people she feels threatened by, and publicly argues with other political officials at the drop of a pin. She is currently using her position and power as a public official to deceive people into thinking there are efforts out there to "silence" her, and if you want me to be more "constructive" toward her I will do so by asking her why she wasn't more honest with memebers of the Tigua tribe in telling them that (a) she was accepting money from another tribe with competing interests (b) why she is now trying to cover this by "explaining" that it's difficult for female politicians to obtain donations when any superficial review of her finances will show a correlation between her votes in the legislature and the increasing contributions she receives from interested parties I would also ask her to be more honest in answering (c) why she insists on saying she is being "silenced" when anyone with eyes and ears knows that the opposite is true--she is on the radio and in the news quite often (d) why she continues to behave in ways that are contradictory to how a state representative should behave in public And I would ask David why it is that he targets Chavez's behavior without saying anything about why he thinks people like Keith Mahar would really allow her the time and space to make such a screeching effort at "representing" El Paso to begin with, and why he continues to insist that he and Jaime Abeytia are being targeted and victimized

it sounds like he's taken another page out of the manual: play victim, play the "disillusioned" and the hanger-on, ride it out "it really isn't my fault, I was fooled into believing in someone who didn't deserve me or my loyalty" "challenge" the establishment: kiss up to it and you too can start a radio "career"

Chavez responds to David's allegations, via NPT, editor calls them "Prepared", but it seems little editing went into them:
Newspaper Tree - El Paso's Original News Source Chávez on Strelzin: 'There is no agreement' by NPT Staff
"Once again, Paul Strelzin, your talent is recognized. There were no phone calls made by me to Univision about your time slot. There is no agreement between you and me regarding any agenda on the talk show." -- state Rep. Norma Chávez.
Posted on April 13, 2009 Editor's note: The following are prepared remarks used by state Rep. Norma Chávez in her appearance Monday on the Paul Strelzin show on KQBU 920 AM.
***
I would first like to thank Univision Corporate for their recognition of the great value you BRING to talk radio in El Paso.
Paul, you have been a political radio activist whom I had the pleasure of first getting to know when I was an organizer for the United Farm Workers of America and I mentored Bowie youth.
You had the only high school MEChA club in the United States at the time, and you Paul Strelzin lived the racist invasion in public schools that resulted in the 1992 Murillo vs. Musegades case when a federal judge granted the request for a temporary restraining order against the INS.
I want to remind people what the judge noted 17 years ago: In a brief the judge noted:
"The El Paso Border Patrol a regular, consistent and prominent presence on the Bowie High School campus, whether there presence be by parking in the parking lots, speeding along service roads, jumping across curbs, or driving across concrete sidewalks and grassy areas. The El Paso Border Patrol presence is further made known by the driving over the football practice field and baseball diamond, entering the football locker rooms, using surveillance with binoculars from the football stadium, and using binoculars to watch flag girls practice on campus. Bowie High school provides an oasis of safety and freedom for the students and the staff who reside within the school district. The continued harassment of students and staff by the El Paso Border Patrol is both an invasion of their civil rights and their oasis..."
You Paul provided that oasis!
You Paul Strelzin were the voice of the Diablo games, UTEP basketball games, and various radio shows.
And once again Paul Strelzin, your talent, commitment to the community, harsh, rough and tough personality is recognized as an important voice in the community by Univision corporate as well as the local Univision staff here in El Paso.
I am proud to be the first radio guest of your new show and hope that this is the final home of the Strelz.
Unfortunately, your good fortune is being grossly mischaracterized.
When EPMedia group said they were going to start a new radio AM station that included you; I was pleased to once again wake up to the mischievous Strelz.
In February, I asked for a lunch meeting with Keith Mahar to discuss how and if I could help them be successful with this new venture.
I had never had the opportunity to meet Keith Mahar nor Lisa Delgatoni, but our lunch at the Cafe Central was outstanding.
His commitment to the community, profit withstanding, to have an independent radio talk show line up was honorable.
My only suggestion was that I thought you were the working man's radio talk show host and that you should start at 7 am.
Keith was clearly content with his line up.
So my second suggestion was that he do a once a week crossfire between David K and the Strelz from 7 - 8 am to "stir the pot" on the issues.
Keith thought it was a good idea, and would suggest it to the group. It never happened. I heard that the 6-8 am host said "no".
We had a good lunch.
And I believe that Keith Mahar and the El Paso Media group is a vitally important news information network that must be maintained in El Paso.
I offered to try to help contact small businesses that I know to advertise. However, my duties in Austin during session, and with the heavy load due to my committee assignments allowed me only to forward a few emails to a few friends. Unfortunately, the economy has impacted almost everyone's advertising budget.
The only appearance that I made on your KQBU show was on February 27, 2009.
It was, as usual heavy on Paul and Normaisms and driven by the callers. A good thing.
After your show, you and I went to see the new studio that KBNA/Kama was building. A pretty impressive studio.
This was the only time that I met Carlos, the sales manager, and the only conversation I have ever had with the man or with anyone affiliated with Univision corporate or local.
Whatever issues you had with the station or with EPMedia group management eventually resulted in you being taken off the radio once again.
And today, I am pleased that Univision has made changes that have you back on the morning drive shift starting at 7 am.
There were no phone calls made by me to Univision about your time slot. There were no other calls made by me regarding the talk show line up. There were NO PHONE CALLS AT ALL MADE BY ME to anyone at Univision, KBNA/KAMA or any subsidiary. None.
There is no agreement between you and me regarding any agenda on the talk show.
There is no violation of the Texas Ethics Commission, there are no in-kind donations, there are no corporate donations, and there are no FEC OR FCC violations.
And be advised, any small business I know that I can suggest to talk to KBNA management to advertise I WILL GLADLY REFER TO MANAGEMENT.
I am anxious to be a guest on today's show. I will fly to Austin from your show for a meeting. We are not in session today, and Texas is a part-time legislature.
Like numerous politicians at the city, county and state level I am ready and willing to be on your show when time permits. There is no violation for elected officials to be on radio shows as a guest.
So, Paul congratulations, Univision felicidades and now let's get down to some talk radio.

Norma started her "talk" by telling Paul that she would read prepared statements and did not want him to interrupt her - said with a knowing giggle

Brownfield, that was funny ;D poor Chavez has had a lapse. Remember this? www.cis.org/articles/1993/back993.htmlPages 11-12 "Because of the nature of the historical and family ties in the Ciudad Juarez-El Paso metropolitan area, one aspect of Border Patrol operations that was especially problematic resulted from apprehensions of illegal aliens who succeeded in entering populated areas of El Paso. With 70-75 percent of the citizens and legal residents of Hispanic descent, as are nearly all of the illegal entrants, the Border Patrol occasionally would apprehend the wrong person, thinking it had the person who the cameras had just spotted climbing through the fence.According to Chief Reyes, at the time that Operation Blockade was launched, there were 76 pending court cases against the INS as a result of mistaken identity incidents inherent in this environment. One especially conflictive point was at Bowie High School, which is immediately on the U.S. side of the border after crossing the Rio Grande. Illegal aliens reportedly intentionally sought the cover of merging into groups of students as a way to elude apprehension. Lawsuits alleging discriminatory treatment were filed against the Border Patrol specifically because of efforts to pursue illegal aliens on the grounds of this school.Chief Reyes noted on November 8 that, since assuming the new operational deployment of deterrence rather than apprehension, there has not been a single new complaint from the public. He pointed out in a similar vein that there had not been a single shooting incident involving his forces since then, either. Perhaps also symptomatic of the success of the new border control deployment was the following statement made by Paul Strelzin, the Principal of Bowie High School, that appeared in the September 21 El Paso Times: "I think it's great to put these agents on the line and keep people out."

We are the lucky ones, brownfield. This particular person has always been pretty vocal and it's been easy to see how he changes his positions for his own benefit.
The people that are smarter end up in political positions, although every now and then, someone like Chavez gets lucky. But she didn't get there without help, and she used to be a lot better at showing her loyalty to people like the farmworkers than she has been over the past several years.
