not even sure how to answer. I've never experienced this, but then I never converted or joined another church after leaving Catholicism. I've never heard of it, so I guess I'm at a loss...

When a new person enters a church is it "Biblical" for the "faithful" to guess at how long the newbie will last or is that a new tradition? I would offer the opinion that such a game would be counter productive, at least within any of the Christian Faiths with which I have a little familiarity. The objective it would seem to me would be to assist them in becoming lifelong members of the congregation or faith. Most "religions" have a hierarchical organization with appointed or designated spiritual guides/leaders who have the primary role of introducing members to the tenets and practices of the faith and to help them become strong members. So short answer - no I think what you describe is a case of human frailty.

Are you asking about a new member of a particular church or are you speaking of a new believer in Christ? The former, I guess, would have to do with whatever traditions have been ascribed by that church. Although most churches want to increase lasting membership, not scare it way. As far as being a new believer in Christ then the answer is a clear and resounding no. There is absolutely no Biblical basis for betting how long one will last in the faith. Now, what I'm curious is why you would ask this. You called this a "tradition." For whom?

Easy for you to say, Rosa. I had a reputation that preceded me here so I had to take the Blood Oath of Civility before the mods here would even let me play. I still have the scar on the palm of my hand from the blood letting.
