okay, if I'm understanding these numbers, these are the best estimates they get, off of census and related stats?

Yes the statistics are drawn from census data. Funny I heard a talk show host "interpret" the numbers and conclude that because all the highest unisured rates are along the border with Mexico then obviously illegal immigrants were a prime cause. Now if you read the study portion you will see that he has a point, but he just drew that conclusion from the map figures, when the reality is that just using the map you could also conclude there is probably a correlation with mean income as well, nothing to do with illegals.

actually, another way I was going was in trying to come up with an estimate of how much underreporting there could be....all those unaccounted for, for whatever reason.....that's why I was asking; hadn't even gotten as far as you have yet....
