Looking at the local fracas between County Judge Anthony Cobos and the El Paso Times, you might be tempted to think that there's a side to be taken here But with all of the loud posturing he's doing on one end (that impromptu "press conference"? ) and the increasingly irresponsible nonsense coming from the paper (who would have ever thought the primary advertising content would be a welcome sight?) It just seems like they should all be held after school for detention This is certainly no way to serve the public. I'm getting sick of this junk

I agree. How much air time, newspaper print and blogging time has been wasted on a simple question - Is he resiging or not and if he does how will his seat be filled.
I cannot believe Cobos and JOP were not smart enough that in this case silence may have been the smarter response.

you would think so, although he's never demonstrated a whole lot of maturity. But I think the same can be said for all of the people on Commissioner's Court. Saw an interview on Fox News last night, where Veronica Escobar (who's alleged to have started that "rumor" about Cobos leaving) belted out an "operatic" note in response to being asked how she felt about the incoming commissioners
Real professional.
If the rumors are true and she and Senator Shapleigh want her in that seat so badly, why doesn't she just run for it? If they aren't true, then Cobos should have known, he and Jaime Perez both, that discretion is the better part of valor. Shapleigh has been going a little too far on the kingmaker end of things, and he's been ignoring a lot of warnings about the growing unhappiness with his ability to represent his constituents, but that's just my opinion.
Cobos should have known better, and he should have behaved professionally throughout this whole mess. He bangs on the door of the Times building, but they won't let him in? Ridiculous! How are any of these people or entities serving the public good with all of this stupidity?

I hate to say it, but I am developing a fondness for the Haggerty boys
if anything happens with Cobos before the end of his term, I think I would support former Rep. Haggerty stepping in there

I will settle for anyone who can maintain sanity for two months running, and I don't think that there is anyone else who really intends to be fair to constituents around here.
everyone else in the democratic party is either beholden to a republican or split so far on extremes and/or personality problems, that it's not worth even listening to them anymore

and the paper says Perez just submitted papers for a possible run against Steve Ortega
not sure which is worse, but given that Ortega claims he's representing his district when he's publicly done everything but, it seems hard to believe that anyone could do any worse

well, the speculation was that Cobos was looking for a political job out of town; now I am hearing that he's done with politics and is looking for a "real" job
If he's not meant for a future here, so be it. Sure wish he'd do a decent job with whatever remains of his term

Oh, I think that at this rate, this is a person who might be out of your price range on several levels
