I've debated whether or not to put this up, but I think it merits some attention, however minimal
At the Thursday nite fundraiser for La Posada, several people noted the presence of Border Patrol agents outside of Gonzalo's Restaurant. The officers were on bicycles, didn't interact much with guests or patrons; they hung around a while, and left after seemingly ensuring that their presence was felt by the people who attended this event
I was glad to hear that there were no incidents related to their presence, and anyone who has lived here for a while can understand how the Border Patrol will account for making their presence visible at events such as this....
they hung around on the sidewalk. they didn't appear to be hunting anyone down or investigating anything or anyone in particular
as such, I wonder if they planned on apprehending any suspicious or potentially dangerous, undocumented individuals at a fundraiser for a homeless shelter for women and children? It was an enjoyable and productive night for the shelter...the networking, the author reading from her latest book, some personal stories from shelter residents who have overcome so many personal challenges, the entertainment
and I wonder if the wall is really working if these are the types of people that ICE is focusing time, manpower and resources on?
