January 1st the old reliable 40 and 60 watt incandescent light bilbs will be illegal to manufacture or import. Okay numb nuts politicians...the new technology bulbs are said to last 15 times longer. Oh but they also come with a huge price tag. A six pack of the new 60 watt LED bults will run you almost 78 bucks. Home Depot sells a six pack of 60-Watt incandescents from GE for $4.67, or 78 cents apiece. A six-pack of 60-Watt LEDs from Cree sells for an eye-watering $77.82 -- $12.97 each. So you supposedly get 15 times more longevity but at 16 times the cost of incandescent and the color and loght output sucks. Another problem is the CFL pig tale flicker rate. I don't know about you but the CFL bulbs whig my eyes out and the color sucks and aren't near as bright and also come with a heavy price tag. Use those cute little pig tail bulbs outside in your motion detector porch light and see how long they last. Now last but not least...when those bulbs go out there will now be a ecological nightmare. LEDs contain lead, arsenic and a dozen other potentially dangerous substances. CFLs contain mercury one of the most toxic substances on the planet. Also spectroscopic analysis on CFLs confirmed the presence of significant UVA and UVC radiation. We'll use less energy at a major cost increase and we'll be poisoning our planet during the mean time and increasing chances of skin cancer. Good job you bunch of morons. Better run on down to Home Depot. They have a 6 month stock pile.
